Tim Fetherstonhaugh continued his winning ways with a flag-to-flag victory in the first heat of the eMalahleni F1 Powerboat Grand Prix at Witbank Dam. Elzane de Jager was running in second place for most of the race until engine problems caused her to slow, eventually dropping down to sixth. Robert Shepard claimed second followed by Steven Zungu. Andre Kemp, driving Wynand de Jager's boat, had a race-long dice with Terri Mitchell eventually taking fourth place.

Tim Fetherstonhaugh took pole position on the starting grid for the first of the three heats that will make up the eMalahleni F1 Powerboat Grand Prix later today. The Port Alfred resident set a time just over two tenths of a second quicker than Elzane de Jager with Steven Zungu the best of the rest. Robert Shepard set the fourth fastest time but damaged his motor doing it. An engine change will drop him to the back of the grid. Terri Mitchell and Andre Kemp were fifth and sixth respectively.

Wynand de Jager crashed his boat during the second practice session for tomorrow's eMalahleni F1 Powerboat Grand Prix bringing the Formula 1 part of the day's proceedings to a premature close. De Jager hit the bottom turn buoy which launched his boat into the air and flipped it over. He has been taken to a local hospital to be checked out as he was trapped under the water for a while.
